Cooper Levenson will provide, with uncompromising commitment, our business and individual clients with exceptional law services and the "client first" focus that has contributed to our success since 1957.
When Jim Cooper founded this firm more than 60+ years ago, his love for the law was matched by a deep sense of commitment to the community, especially to those most in need. With little fanfare but great effectiveness, he has spent the intervening 60+ years investing his personal and professional resources in ways that have changed lives - and, by his example, inspired others to do the same.
The scope and specifics of our involvement range from taking leadership roles at the national level, to volunteering in civic and neighborhood settings, to supporting our troops in the field, to funding scholarships for aspiring students, to working in soup kitchens, leading a food distribution program for school kids who go without meals when school is not in session, to delivering presents to disadvantaged children during the holidays.
Community service is central to the history and future of this law firm, and we will continue to seek creative ways to offer the best of who we are to those we serve.
Our colleagues, friends and neighbors see us ALL the time, doing our part. See the partial list of organizations we serve below.
Cooper Levenson was formed in 1957 with two attorneys. Since then, the firm has grown to 75 attorneys and a support staff of more than 100.
Cooper Levenson has always dominated the practice of gaming law on the East Coast, crafting legislation that enabled casinos to open in Atlantic City in the 1970s and representing most of the casino companies doing business in New Jersey. In 2007, the firm "went West" and launched its Nevada practice, adding a Las Vegas location to the offices in New Jersey and Delaware. In 2017, as the firm celebrates its 60th anniversary, the firm will open an office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Cooper Levenson has always held fast to our corporate philosophy of dedication to the community - and especially to the children - as the best way to ensure a strong future for our hometowns. We are honored to have received numerous awards for our community service efforts over the years:
Through all of our extensive growth and change, the cornerstones of our firm's foundation remain the same: commitment to client service, corporate responsibility, and dedication to community.
We think Atlantic City Councilman-at-Large Mo Delgado said it best when bestowing on the firm the "Home Town Hero" award saying, "Among us are some special people who do extraordinary things to help others in Atlantic City, These everyday people don't look for accolades or benefit of any kind for doing what they do; it's just part of who they are."
At Cooper Levenson, we believe our future rests in our collective ability to embrace change and encourage diversity through our leadership, employment, and continued community support.
The firm is a member of the New Jersey Law Firm Group, which is comprised of New Jersey Law firms, corporate legal departments, governmental agencies and public interest organizations that recognize the importance and advantages of diversity in not only serving the needs of clients but also in enhancing the legitimacy and public image of the legal profession. Each year, this organization provides a fellowship, a job fair, mentor programs and roundtable discussions at each of New Jersey's law schools to demystify the recruitment process and to encourage participation in the groups programs.
Committed to diversity issues since its very inception, firm founder James Cooper was a member of President Kennedy's Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights, having litigated civil rights cases in Mississippi in 1966. One of our attorneys was selected as a Kellogg's Law Fellow for the NAACP Office of General Counsel, where she worked on national civil rights issues and participated in discussion panels throughout the country. We are proud to say that one of our attorneys was the first woman president of the Atlantic County Bar Association.
Cooper Levenson is proud of this commitment to diversity among its clients, its employees and its community support.
